The most popular consoles in 2021 are Playstation 5, Microsoft Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. While Nintendo Switch is also a portable gaming console you can take on the road the other two will stay next to your TV. Playstation 5 is a home video game console by Sony. It came to the stores at the end of 2020 and for the first months, it was almost impossible to buy due to very high demand. You can choose a version with an optical disc drive or without one. The version without is a little cheaper but limits you to playing just digital versions of games. If you already have some games on DVDs from previous Playstations it’s better to buy the version with the optical drive. Playstation 5 is much better than the previous version, Playstation 4. It has much better graphics, a speedy SSD drive, and the capability of delivering a 4K high frame rate quality image to your TV.
The second option for home video gaming consoles are Xbox series X and Xbox series S. They were both released at the end of 2020 almost at the same time as Sony’s PlayStation 5. The difference between the two consoles is in the hardware. The Xbox series X supports up to 8K resolution, has higher frame rates and high-speed SSD and while the Xbox series S uses the same processor it has less performing graphics, less memory, less internal storage, and lacks an optical drive.
Nintendo Switch is the oldest of the three. It was released at the beginning of 2017. The console itself is a tablet you can dock to use as a home console but you can also use it as a portable device which makes it even more popular. It’s one of the fast-selling home consoles with almost 89 million units sold. It doesn’t offer as superb graphics as Xbox and Playstation but that couldn’t even be expected from a portable console.
When deciding which one of the three to buy you must take into consideration also the games that are available for them. Some games are exclusive to one video game console while some can be found on all of them. If you have a favorite game you would like to play you must check for which console it’s available and make a decision also based on that. In the end, if you want a home console the decision should be made between Xbox and Playstation. Both of them have great performances and you won’t be disappointed by any of them. But if you want to play games also on the road then maybe Switch will be better for you.
