Why doesn't this video have more views? Think about it: there's been a revolution with electric vehicles but how are they holding up? Isn't this question important LOL?
Wow, that's crazy mileage. Along with how tires were most of the cost of upkeep. This truly speaks about the engineering of this vehicle and the longevity of EVs.
Do people who shoot these Tesla video's listen to themselves? Having to replace a seat after 200k miles? My family have gotten more than five vehicles up to 200k+ miles in about 10 years per car without any commercial driving, and we never replaced a seat mechanism. In fact, the most expensive car to maintain was our Blazer, and it didn't cost us more than $7000 to maintain. Of course the axle exploded on it that last time which caused it to be hauled out to pasture, but still. That being said, i am more worried about the batteries and the motors…and those doors.
Just "back of the envelope figures. We ran an audi Q7 it did 22mpg UK mile units. It would have drunk £98.360 or $131.147 in diesel extrapolated over 400k.
Very useful information for EV owners
I'd like to know what kind of battery degradation has taken place, and what you expect for the future.
I love this podcast
If one of the middle seats gives you trouble, take it out and use the car as a 5-seater.
Tesla batteries are designed to last between 300,000 and 500,000 miles, so replacement shouldn't be a major concern for most drivers. It's estimated that the cost to replace a Model 3 battery will be in the $3,000 to $7,000 range.
For people that are curious
I never thought in a million years I would see that car again. I was one of Tesloop's regular customers and spent a lot of time and miles in that car commuting to/from SD and LA. That experience left such a favorable impression as to the interior, layout and looks, that I'm very interested in buying an electric vehicle next year. (I'm really looking forward to Electrek's reviews/first impressions of the Rivian and VW microbus.)
Tesloop has most of the high-mileage Tesla's listed on TMC's list. Their ride-loop system didn't work out and halted. They pivoted to a car rental service, limited to drives from Santa Monica to San Diego, but that also failed. The Tesloop website now shows "expired". 3 other taxi companies tried using Tesla's exclusively and all failed, most stating "poor reliability and long repairs". Many fans claim "more reliable than an ICE car", but reality is proving different. Repair costs are a big reason that many owners report 2x higher insurance rates than a prior ICE car of similar value, and many said their insurer wouldn't even insure their Tesla, so they had to get separate insurance (Tesla offers in CA).
Would have liked some comments on battery performance. Is range still good? Brakes? What’s it like to drive?
nice one. btw the camera work could use some improvement
Nice.
J'ai vu une partie du vidéo à travers tes lunettes
Video about longevity of electric cars, and NO info about what happened to the battery ? Useless….
You maybe most worried about the middle row seats going out again. However the cost of a new battery will probably eclipse that. Hopefully that isn't necessary.
Nice vid! I'd like to know the Revenue generated in those 400k miles?
So repairs are about two times the cost of tires. Doesn’t sound too bad to me. Many cars wouldn’t even make it 400,000 miles.
I think they forgot to include the warranty parts like the traction battery replacements and drivetrain replacement. Out of warranty they will be very high costs, lucky they get an 8 year warranty and at that time unlimited mileage, unfortunately that is now gone and its now a still very high 160,000 mile on Model S and X
no battery change?
Electrek is the best EV-info website in the world. Thanks Fred for your wonderful contribution!
The amount of tires replaced and the towing should be removed from the costs. That's stupid bad driving not typical maintenance. Plus insurance will pay you back.
Basically, minimal maintenance costs for nearly 400K miles, with a relatively inexpensive renovation giving the car another 200K – 400K miles of use.
29k is a lot (period)
The lack of focus made me stop watching. Sorry.
There are longer wearing tires if you can switch to 19" wheels. Michelin Defender LTX M/S in 235/55/19 and 245/55/19. 29.1" and 29.6" diameter. $211 and $213 with a 720 wear rating.
Cool video, but please redo it. This isn’t up to your typical video standards from electrek :/
Toyotas gets there easily.
Can you comment on the driver's egress side seat wear? I would expect that to be in sad shape after that many butt slides.
