Philips Hue LED Strip SUCKS!

I’ll stop saying Philips Hue sucks when they stop sucking. This side by side comparison proves once again that Philips Hue are charging double the price of their competitors for the same thing, and in some cases a worse product! These Google Home and Alexa enabled LED strip lights go head to head and the Philips Hue Light Strip falls short in almost every category.

The Lumary Smart LED strip does not require a hub and instead works on the Tuya Smart Home Platform and the cost saving between the two products totals more than £70 despite the Hue strip being 10 entire feet shorter!! If you are trying to justify that Hue is a better quality product then just remember the price per inch of what you’re defending… I’ll help you out, it’s £8.20 per inch without factoring in the cost of the hub, for comparison the Lumary LED strip is £2.06 per inch

One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that the strip is heat sealed to it’s power supply, so if you were planning to hide the box by connecting the cable through a drilled hole in your kitchen cabinet then good luck, the hole will need to be the size of the LED strip itself!

I find him so funny & entertaining, & He’s freakin adorable!
As a New york American You all get us with the accent always.

I do love my philips hue though. But i do love the smart life app too. I just got myself a few strands of smart, wifi 100 LED twinkle lights!
Like 2 months ago now actually! I do Love them & i would love to try Lumary. I think i will!

Thanks hun. Im new but glad i found you.

I do not know what kind of internet or cell phone you have but with me the update was downloaded and installed after 2 min and not after 13 min (for all 3 light stripes I have )

  4. The Ceiling Fan Guy 06

I Own the Philips Hue Lightstrip plus, as well as three hue white bulbs and a hue bloom. I like Hue but i also enjoy your videos and totally get what your saying about hue. The things you say about the Hue strip is true but I want to point out, if you go into the Settings on the Hue App, there is an option called "Power On Behaviour", and in there is different options. Hopefully that helps!

  5. Olliwer

I chose the Philips Hue because

    1. I already own a couple Hue lights
    2. I don't like buying stuff online
    3. Philips Hue has a developer program and I like those kinds of stuff

Otherwise I would have bought the Lumary

  6. Jeffrey Mayes

Hubs are good. Philips or otherwise. It has nothing to do with your love or disdain for Philips or servers in China and everything about the amount of devices on your network. The less the better. As far as all your other 'pitfalls' for the Hue product line, yes you are correct.

  7. Itsjul1an

1 thing in this video isn't right. The light stays the same if you unplug it and plug it back in, but you need to select it first in the setting. If you go to the 'settings' tab and click on 'behaviour when switching on' tab and selecting the lightstrip, you'll be able to select 3 options. Select 'recovery after power failure'. There u go!

  8. Laurent de backer

I wonder, is Philips Hue really not worth it? Asking about the bulbs, not the strips. I've seen different video's and i've seen a lot of people praising it actually, so not sure what to do…

  9. Richard Gunther

I've never seen this guy's videos before. He makes many good points about many of the problems with Philips Hue light strips, including the price, rubbish app, and insane firmware download times.

But I didn't realize YouTube had a category for videos that only get played in men's locker rooms. Not 20 seconds in, the host is making jokes about manhood size. Not cool. Later in the video he jokes about violence against women, punctuating the joke with a random visual video clip. Not cool, not funny…not anywhere. And I guess because that's not enough, he takes it one step further, joking about punching a particular female celebrity. But he doesn't like violence, he says later in the video. Disgusting. I won't be back.

Does it work with HomeKit? How am I going to control all my 30 bulbs 5 smart switches door lock, fans ect….? Do you open apps for everything you want to use one by one cause that sounds exhausting. One app to rule them is what I’ve always wanted.

  11. Andus Ro

Some advice needed from anyone is possible. Im going to be using light strips at the back of the shelves in my gaming room. Can anyone recomend a light stip and motion sensor combo that would enable me to have the lights turn on when i enter the room and then slowly fadeout after say 5 mins. Current equipment: echo, echo dot, philips hue hub (shame).

  12. nick reed

I agree Hue is way over priced and there is better options but if you want a bigger range and 3rd party apps it wins. But if you want to just have lights and No hub then LIFX and novastella are the one's but the range isn't as big and no 3rd party apps. I use Hue on my desktop just cause i want Sync with My music other brands don't do that

  13. JDK K

Can you link all your lights throughout your house to sync all lights w lumary? Can you custom design lighting scenes for different events?

  14. James Lashmar

My gripe with smart life is that they GPS activation is crap. Also, their sunrise and sunset cannot be adjusted with an offset. So I can't fine tune my lights when it feels a little darker earlier than the sunset, which means I have to manually turn my lights on. This nullifies the point of the automation in the first place. I've sent this back as feedback to smart life so that all of my Philips and other lights connected into smart life can be automated in sync.

  15. blahness666

The main reason I like my Philips lights is because they can sync with my tv's and my pc monitor's colors (and music at the same time). it also has an option to sync music only with any color you choose. The software is solid and not glitchy at all unlike most 3rd party apps I've tried. can lumary do this exact thing? I really would like a cheaper alternative that works just as well or better at these 2 things…

  16. Declan Moon

I've been the owner of phillips hue for the better part of 1 day, and personally I'm amazed by the quality. I do see and understand your points here but you did miss out on something important – durability. Every other light strip I have owned has had its led's fault after being wrapped around corners, moved frequently, etc, from my understanding this absolutely does not happen with phillips hue.

Also, the title is wrong, it doesn't suck but it is definitely overpriced.
