Video game consoles are nothing without their controllers. But exactly how have gamepads changed over the years? What led us to the standard game controllers of today?

VR isn't gaming? VR controllers are not game controllers? You mention the extremely niche steam controller but not Oculus touch, one of the most comfortable controllers ever made? You guys don't have headsets?

The master system used that 8 way D pad design because Nintendo patented their D pad design therefore no other company could use that iconic design. So the mega drive has the ring around theirs, Sony broke theirs into for pieces etc etc. Only until recently did that patent expire, that's why the xbox1 controller uses the cross dpad design.
    Details matter gameranx.

10 minutes in the video and he basically rated all controllers as "meh" then a PlayStation controller made into the video and suddenly he started talking about it like it's the Holy Graal of controllers… what a f** fanboy!

"Xbox 360 used official Bluetooth signal" yeah right tell that to my Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller Receiver, please go back playing with your so loved Playstation and let Jake do the voiceovers, at least he knows what he's talking about

I dont like the control sticks on playstation it makes no sense to me to put them down there.
XBoX controller are more comfortable in my opinion.

I dont know why but on the PS3 Controller i get more spasms then on the PS4 maybe they changed something a little bit.

but XBox 360 and Xbox One controller are so Comfortable and perfect.
In my opinion the Xbox 360 Controller would be the best without the clunky battery box.

Still use my Dualshock 2 controller on my PC with an adapter. Bought a very cheap $20 XBox controller, but it's not nearly as nice as ones that come with XBox systems (button response isn't as good). I love my Dualshock, but I think the Gamecube controller might be the most comfortable that I have used.

I'm nitpicking about semantics a bit, but I wouldn't say the original Playstation had "triggers". They just added two more shoulder buttons. Playstation didn't add triggers until the PS3, which was probably influenced by the original XBox or Dreamcast controllers.

I cannot be the only one who kept grinding their teeth hearing "aiterative" when he meant "iterative". I know, I know, it's such a smarmy nitpick, but for some reason unknown to me it really really got on my nerves!

PS5:I WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD! I WILL MAKE THE WORLD SENSE MY POWER! I HAVE A THICKER SHAPE AND THE CLASSIC BUTTON LAYOUT YOU KNOW AND LOVE! I WILL WIN!

Xbox series X/S: BOO HOO I'M USING THE SAME FUCKING CONTROLLER!!!!! oh and add all the stuff the ps5 controller has KEEP THE SHAPE THE SAME AND DON'T CHANGE THE LAYOUT!!!!!!!!! PLAY IT AS SAVE AS YOU CAN! KEEP IT THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!

(Can't judge em tho no need to fix what's not broken!)

The Japanese version of the Legend Of Zelda used the Microphone on the second controller. That's why in the manual it says that Pols Voice doesn't like loud noises, which of course Americans were mystified by this.
