Audi e-tron Review – Just Another EV For Guilty Rich People, Or A Real Tesla Alternative?

Today I am driving Audi’s e-tron. The e-tron is the first all-electric car from Audi to be gifted its own nameplate. They’ve created a couple of all electric cars before, but this is the one that’s getting all the fanfare – so does it deserve it?

Let’s find out.

Wow! Mr Negative! I was stunned, STUNNED by the amazing quality of the e-tron's interior so I'm shocked to see you spend a good percentage of this video slagging it. You didn't seem at all impressed by the quietness inside the car when driving, and yet the only car on the market that is quieter IMO is the Rolls Royce Phantom (I have seen other reviewers saying the same thing). I could go on. The reality is that if you want the ultimate LUXURY EV this is it. That is more than enough reason for many buyers to single this car out for purchase.

Really honest review. I’ve driven the 55 Quattro version & couldn’t agree more. To me, it excelled at nothing but being an SUV for wafting. I found it hard to see the cost benefit as it’s very expensive for what it offers.

Please clarify what "here" and "this country" refers to when you explain details about the car. It becomes clear after a while perhaps, but is not immediately obvious to non UK viewers who watch a lot of videos like this from all over the world.

Your criticism of the interior is absolutely valid. I have the new Q3 and it is a big drop in interior quality than the previous model. Whilst very modern looking, you’re surrounded by very cheap plastic. It seems that to keep costs down, Audi are compromising their USP. They ain’t no BMW to drive, so they have to at least have the interior going for them. Ford aren’t far behind the latest Audis in terms of interior quality.

While I understand the temptation to believe that off street parking is rare in the UK, the statistics don't actually agree. According to the last census, more than 73% of households in the UK had a driveway. Doesn't help the rest, of course, but thinking that home charging is an outlier idea just demonstrates that you spend a long time driving around Bradford or Dewsbury and such.

So many fanboys who complains about range, most people rarely does more than 50 miles let alone to max out E-Tron range….You do that maybe few times per year and you can supercharge it anyway so no big deal…What really matters is how it drives, build quality, luxury, interiors etc…And no doubt that Audi put Tesla to shame in those areas, if i had money i would go for the E-Tron Sportback which looks amazing, so comfortable, luxurious, amazing interiors etc, probably the best EV hands down…

Part of why the EU car makers are getting into EV's is the EU regulation that call on them for hitting a specific average for all the cars they sell combined, so they need EV's to bring down their average to compensate for the big thirsty cars. Ie. either they sell EV's and/or super economic petrol cars or they pay fines – the rules are so though makers like Porsche are likely willing to sell their EV's under cost rather than pay fines.

My manager here in NZ, bought the Audi Etron. He lasted 5 months with it, and then returned it for a full refund, and bought a Tesla Model S. He is much much happier with the Tesla than he ever was with the Etron. And he is what I called an Audi Fanboy. He has always bought Audi's in the past, and always new, and expensive ones.

Overpriced pile of unnecessary junk. Put glass door mirrors back on save £5k. That's the problem with most EV's & Hybrid's, they are filled with crap few drivers really need or use. That's why the Nissan Leaf is so expensive. They are good vehicles spoiled by stupid price, caused by idiot designers that don't live in the real world. Think about it – why have electric windows that every time they are used they shorten the vehicles range, Dump the unneeded electronic junk, then bring the price down and more people will buy them

You just contradicted yourself. If they designed all those safety features to allow the car to self-drive, then you can take your eyes of the road for a couple of seconds if that to press a button to change the temperature

I'm with you on the distraction-factor. Infotainment consoles distract enough, without having to menu-dive to operate basic heating controls. Safe driving relies on muscle memory knowing where various controls are, without taking your eyes off the road. You are in essence performing a function identical to that of illegally operating a mobile phone whilst driving. Bonkers.

I'm a Total Audi Fan and all my cars before Electric revolution started has been Audi. However the E-Tron to me is a total FLOP. Just doesn't warrant the price. This car will not hold it's value down the road unless there is a better battery pack with a modest upgrade. This car with price and range was a big disappointment.
